DOXYCYCLINE

Doxycycline is an antibiotic used to treat many infections, like acne, urinary, intestinal and eye infections, periodontitis and certain sexually transmitted diseases (like gonorrhea and chlamydia). Some forms of doxycycline may be used to prevent malaria and treat infections caused by mites, ticks and lice. There are three different forms of doxycycline: capsule, tablet and buccal gel.

PRECAUTIONS

Pregnancy :

It is not recommended to take doxycycline, or an agent of the same class or a drug with the same mechanism, during pregnancy. These drugs are toxic to the fetal development of the child. Doxycycline should not be used during the second and third trimester of pregnancy. The risks associated with taking the drug during the first trimester have not been established.

Breastfeeding :

There seems to be a possible impact on children if doxycycline is taken during breastfeeding. The short-term use of the drug is indicated if the benefits gained outweigh the risks of taking doxycycline. It is not recommended to take this product for long periods because doxycycline appears to have an effect on the growth and the color of teeth of children exposed. As doxycycline is less related to calcium, in comparison with other tetracyclines, drug molecules can be absorbed by the infant.

Food :

It is recommended to take doxycycline while eating, because it is less irritating for the gastric tract. Also, to reduce irritation, do not take the medication at bedtime. It is preferable to take it wild standing or sitting with a glass of water. It is recommended to swallow the medicine directly, without chewing it or cuting it.

For Periostat and Apprilon, it is recommended to take these drugs on an empty stomach one hour before or two hours after a meal. If a patient is alcoholic, it is not advisable to consume this medication because alcohol diminishes the effect of the drug.

Doxycycline also has an effect on vitamins and minerals such as calcium, iron, multivalent ions and B-complex vitamins.

Contraindications :

For people with myasthenia gravis, doxycycline is contraindicated for unspecified reasons.
