Travel health and vaccine advice for Moldova

Moldova is located in Eastern Europe, between Romania and Ukraine. Only vaguely known, even on its own continent, Moldova remains a mysterious land for the majority of people. The country was once under Soviet rule. Its independence was followed by an unstable political climate and a civil war. This may explain why the country remains so isolated from tourist routes. Moldova is however worth the visit for adventurers wishing to explore something unknown. Moldova hosts some dramatic monasteries in a lovely landscape. The country has developed a sophisticated viticulture and a wine tasting tour in itself could justify a trip to Moldova.

MEDICAL CARE

In Moldova, access to health care is very limited, even in Chisinau, the capital city. Medical establishments usually lack modern equipment following international standards. Serious medical issues require an air evacuation to another country.

In case of emergency in Moldova, you can call an ambulance at 903. Emergency services are usually quite quick and efficient.

Be aware that well stocked and reliable pharmacies are very rare in Moldova. It is strongly advised that you bring your own first aid kit and medical supplies when traveling to the country, especially if you intend to travel in rural and remote areas.

SECURITY ABROAD

Transnistria is a separatist region, located in eastern Moldova along the Ukrainian border, which is not under Moldovan government control. The security situation may be unstable and unpredictable.
