Bouvet Island
Bouvet Island is an uninhabited volcanic island dependent on Norway since 1927 and located in the southern Atlantic. Nyrøysa, created by a rock slide in the late 1950s, is the only easy place to land and is the location of an automatic weather station. 93 percent of the island is covered by glaciers, which gives it a domed shape. The entire island and its territorial waters were protected as a nature reserve on 17 December 1971.
